Planting bulbs

Dig a hole twice the depth of the bulb, using either a bulb planter or ordinary trowel (eg a large 10cm Daffodil bulb needs a hole 20cm deep, whereas a tiny 3cm Scilla bulb only needs to be planted 6cm down).

Place some grit or sharp sand at the bottom of the planting holes to stop the bulbs rotting in wet weather.

Place the bulb in the bottom of the hole, ensuring you’ve got it right side up! Generally speaking, the pointy bit is the top of the bulb, and the fatter, flatter bit is the bottom.

Fill the hole back up again with the soil you took out.
